MONTESSORI ATRIUM TRELLIS
CLIENT: MONTESSORI INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE
ARCHITECT: PLACE SENSE
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT: JAMES BIRRELL DESIGN LAB
CONTRACTOR: HUTCHINSON BUILDERS
The Montessori building features a bold circular atrium to its center, mirroring the overall form of the building. A continuous run of Jakob Webnet consisting of individual panels was seamlessly laced together to serve as both fall protection and as a transparent barrier. Cutouts were incorporated into the webnet to accommodate structural beams protruding into the space. The installation also serves as a vertical trellis, gradually softening the appearance of the void as it greens over time. This project is a great representation of the multifunctional and flexibile nature of Jakob Webnet.
